Orpheus in the Underworld – a Synopsis

Wouldn’t it be nice to be immortal?
Well, let’s find out by following Jacques Offenbach’s Orpheus in the Underworld.  There could be a surprise or two.  For example, who could imagine that Olympus might be one eternal boring paradise, and that its gods and demi-gods could go on strike for more interesting conditions?  Or, that Jupiter, God of gods, is a bumbling father, husband and philanderer with one eye cocked on a pretty ankle and the other on the lashings of public opinion; or that a wild party in Hades is just the thing to relieve the tedium of immortality.

Vous serez transportés où les dieux grecs et les stars de cinéma cohabitent, dans une interprétation des années 1920 de ce classique du 19ème siècle. Eurydice fera face au plaisirs des Enfers tandis que Jupiter et Pluton rivaliseront pour son cœur. Et, suivant l’opinion publique, Orphée partira à la recherche de son épouse, contre son gré.
